Canberra office was very pleased to host its first not-for-profit accounting update seminar at the National Arboretum on 2 July 2013. With an attendance of more than 70 people, representing 50 not-for-profit organisations, it was a very successful event. Despite the lingering fog, freezing temperature and flight delays, Aletta Boshoff (Nexia Australia and New Zealand Audit and Accounting Director) impressed the audience with details of the potential impacts of new and proposed accounting standards. Canberra office partners, Garry Murphy and Michael Bannon, also provided some insight into recent ACNC developments and tax considerations for the not-for-profit sector.

Guests were tuned in to information at the NFP Accounting Update Seminar.

Canberra Audit partner Rod Scott, was invited by Westpac to speak as a not-forprofit specialist at one of its regular local NFP seminars on ‘Why Ratios are Important for Not-for-Profit Organisations’. The attendees included finance staff, chief executive officers and board members of local not-for-profit organisations. Rod presented to the group on the nature and use of ratios, tips and practical issues, which was followed by a lengthy group discussion about their own experiences and opportunities to use ratios better.

Chairman of Partners, Dino Vido, was invited by InCanberra, to speak to members of the Investors and Property Club, about the tax implications of investing in and selling property, including alternative structures for investment.

The Melbourne office had the pleasure of hosting the Nexia National Tax Conference on 23 August with the attendance of all Australian and New Zealand offices.

The event covered Technical Developments and Domestic and International Tax Issues impacting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Other topical issues covered were Trans-Tasman Tax Issues and Transfer Pricing.

The conference also provided the colleagues with a great opportunity to share their knowledge and to network with one another.

The Perth office was delighted to host ‘Champagne and Pearls’, in conjunction with client, Willie Creek Pearls, recently.

With a group of more than 30 female clients and friends of the firm, the cocktail event was held at Willie Creek’s showroom in Subiaco, where guests had the chance to meet and network with other women in Perth, and enjoy the stunning pearl jewellery on display.

Led by Business Advisory partner, Silvia Caratti, this was the first women’s networking event hosted by the Perth office, and following its success, there are plans for more events of this kind in the near future.
